Candace Owens Desperately Wants Twitter to Believe She Didn’t Inspire the New Zealand Mosque Shooter Even Though She Did

Let’s start with one simple fact here: Candace Owens influenced the New Zealand mosque shooter.  There is no denying this. Why? Because the man posted a manifesto that directly named her and said she “influenced” him “above all,” that’s why.

The shooter, identified as Brenton Tarrant, posted a 74-page manifesto oddly presented in a question and answer format that named Owens as the person most influential behind his radicalization, though many see his posting as a clear troll. In response to the question “Is there a particular person that radicalized you the most” Tarrant offered:

“Yes, the person that has influenced me above all was Candace Owens. Each time she spoke I was stunned by her insights and her own views helped push me further and further into the belief of violence over meekness. Though I will have to disavow some of her beliefs, the extreme actions she calls for are too much, even for my tastes. (Mediaite)

To be clear, just because a psychopath says you influenced him, that doesn’t mean you put the gun in his hand. It doesn’t mean you whispered into his ear which persons to shoot and when. Yes, it is possible that Tarrant was just “trolling” everyone, but I’m not here to argue the sincerity of a deranged lunatic. I do that enough when writing about the president these days. I just wanted to share with you the desperate, flailing attempts that Candace has made to distance herself from Tarrant. Of course she wants to do that; she helped inspire a mass killing, so I don’t blame her for not feeling up to acknowledging it.

Whether or not Candace thinks she bears any responsibility for her rhetoric that helped inspire a mass murderer, she certainly seems to be very hurt and offended by people reporting things like facts. One such fact? Tarrant named her, specifically, as someone who influenced him. Why is that important to reiterate? Because of Owens’ attempts to pretend that’s not the case, that’s why.

Whatever the tweet was that she quoted has been deleted. But let’s just break down this first tweet a tiny bit more.

Firstly — Candace’s absolutely ridiculous claim that she “never created any content espousing [her] views on the 2nd Amendment or Islam.” I don’t know why this delusional, sad person thinks she can get away with bold faced lies in the Era of the Internet, but Twitter was quick to provide her receipts that refute her claims.

In case you don’t feel like clicking each of the pictures @jesseltaylor embedded, here they are. Pretty irrefutable proof that Candace is, in fact, a lying sociopath.

Not that these two examples aren’t more than enough to show how full of crap Candace is, but Alex Leo decided to provide reams of evidence to debunk Owens’ nonsense, too.

Next, let’s talk about this section of Candace’s tweet:

“The Left pretending I inspired a mosque massacre in…New Zealand because I believe black America can do it without government hand outs is the reachiest reach of all reaches!! LOL!”

It’s times like these I wish I wasn’t banned on Twitter, because boy would I love a chance to tell her this directly. I don’t think it takes very much to rip that statement into utter shreds. Nobody left, right, or center has to “pretend” Candace inspired a terrorist. The terrorist told us she did. Yes, I understand that mass murderers could have a credibility problem, but given that Owens has on numerous, numerous, numerous times posted content that can be very easily read as anti-Islamic and pro-gun, I’m kinda erring on the side of Candace trying to protect her own ass.

Let’s also just pause, take a break in the action, and remember that Candace was finding ways to excuse Hitler’s genocide not that long ago. Last month she got into hot water when she implied that if Hitler had only kept his nightmarish plans to Germany, and not had dreams of conquering Europe and the world, he’d have been okay. I’m not exaggerating. That’s what she said.

Next, Candace pulled a card from her Snowflake Fuhrer’s deck — threaten the press who simply reported, factually, what happened.

Candace — I’m saying it right here, on this tiny little website. You inspired a terrorist. Come at me. Next, we have Candy giving us a list of historical tragedies she didn’t have anything to do with, conflating them with the one in which the mass murderer named her specifically.

The thing is, had there not been an actual manifesto that specifically named her, Candace’s point would be well-taken. But despite what she and the hard-right Breitbarbarian crowd want you to believe — not everything that happens that paints right-wingers in a bad light is some elaborate 4chan hoax. Candace cannot spin her way out of this one. The man who committed a religious-based act of terror thought she was a pretty cool person.

But it truly does go beyond that. There are mountains of tape and scores of tweets where Candace willingly sent out rhetoric that is toxic, and could easily be seen as related to the ideology that Terrant thought he was defending and a part of. It’s probably inconvenient for Owens, but it’s possible for her to acknowledge that her rhetoric could be too extreme, while also not being responsible for the actual act of the killing. It’s like every time something like this happens, and we point out how the terrorist had hard right-wing views, they think we’re attacking all of conservatism.

But that leaves me wondering what exactly that they think is conservatism to begin with. I used to think I was a conservative. And for sure I never thought any of the things Owens does. I don’t think there’s such a thing as white genocide, not the way Terrant believes there is. I mean, I guess if someone was literally exterminating white people….but that’s not even the point.

The point is that Candace is an idiot if she thinks we won’t remind her of her words. She’s a downright psychopath, though, if she thinks she can regularly say the things she does about liberals and left wingers and not have it inspire dangerous people. Because she has to know, now. Maybe she didn’t know before, but as of this moment, she no longer has the “I was just kidding around,” or, “this is just debate, my dudes,” mentality about her words.

You can run, Candace, but you cannot hide. The Internet is Forever, unlike the careers of opportunistic, vapid, amoral, hucksters. Just sayin’.
